Abstract

The paper presents the satisfaction and needs of both Thai and foreign tourists for three ecotourism attractions in the northeastern region of Thailand: Khao Yai National Park, Phu Kradueng National Park, and Pha Taem National Park, including useful suggestions for ecotourism development. The target population was 450 tourists and 90 foreign tourists who visited Khao Yai National Park, Phu Kradueng National Park, and Pha Taem National Park during January 2010-January 2011. The research instrument was two sets of questionnaires. The statistics used were the percentage, mean, frequency, and standard deviation. The research findings showed that the overall satisfaction of both Thai and foreign tourists with ecotourism attractions was at a high level ( mean = 4.11, S.D. = 3.89). The average need of Thai tourists for ecotourism development of three ecotourism attractions in the northeast was at a high level (mean = 4.19, S.D. = .65). The five high rated items of the factors affecting ecotourism management were environmental prominence and value of the tourism attractions (mean = 4.40, S.D. = .58), public relations (mean = 4.23 S.D. = .58), facilities (mean = 4.20, S.D. = .62), environment preservation (mean = 4.18 S.D. = .75) and tourism activity management (mean = 4.15, S.D. = .65), respectively. The average need of foreign tourists for ecotourism development of three ecotourism attractions in the northeast was at a high level (mean = 4.12, S.D. = .78). The most frequent suggestions of both Thai and foreign tourists for ecotourism development of three ecotourism attractions were public relations, utility and facilities, management, natural preservation, and personnel development. In conclusion, the study suggests that the data are useful for national and regional strategies and policies on sustainable ecotourism development and tourism personnel development.
